I just drove by a house that had the tree trunks painted white. Just to about the 4 foot mark, and it was seemingly done to match the white fence, which also happens to be 4 feet tall.
What kind of a fucking idiot would do such a thing?
I need to get pics, I'll post them tomorrow. People who do stupid shit like this should be shot on sight. Fuck...

Ummmmmmm.. tree trunks are painted for various reasons such as to prevent sun scald, pests, cracking etc.

Ummmmmm....no.
"Wrapping, painting, or installing other trunk protective devices around all planted trees is no longer a standard practice...Damage reported from using protective materials include cracked or split bark, fungal and bacterial diseases due to excess moisture held behind wraps, borer infestations under plastic guards, cambial damage during the summer due to high temperature injury, and most frequently, damage due to trunk girdling or constriction."
They did it to match the fence, trust me. Notice the freshly painted fence posts. Were they trying to protect the metal fence from sun scald?
